David O Brien

David, originally from Athlone, Co.Westmeath was commissioned to the Army Equitation School in 1998. He had an illustrious career with the Army which  spanned over 14 years.

 

In this time he had a myriad of Grand Prix triumphs both on the National and International circuit, as well as representing Ireland on more than 30 occasions at Nations Cup.

 

David had a fine selection of horses over the years while attaining the rank of Captain. Some of the horses that stand out are:

 

  • Boherdeal Clover- the horse that launched his career on the International circuit, winning Cavan, Lisbon, Gijon and Pontedera Grand Prixs

  • Lismore CLover - a fast and competitive mare winning the Speed Derby at CSIO5* Dublin among many others

  • Cruise Hill - a versatile mare that won the Grand Prix at Le Man, the Speed Derby at Vichy and holds the Puissance record at CSIO5* Dublin (2.27m) and Helsinki CSIW (2.17m) 

  • Mo Chroi - a brave mare who expertly mastered the bank in the Hickstead Derby giving David a top 3 finish, three years in a row. She was also 2nd in the CSIO5* Falsterbo Derby competing and winning at many of the Super League Nations Cup events throughout Europe including Aachen, Rotterdam, St Gallen, Hickstead and Falsterbo

  • Drumiller Lough - Silver Medalist at the World Breeding Championships at Lanaken for 6 year olds
